Dictations are now loss-proof: if the connection drops mid-dictation, Scout instantly inserts everything you said — and keeps a private on-device backup just in case.
This release is about one thing: making sure a dictation you've spoken is a dictation you get. A connection hiccup at the wrong moment could previously swallow an entire dictation — especially a long one. That can't happen anymore.
Your words always survive
If the connection to the transcription service drops while you're dictating, Scout now catches it instantly, stops the recording, and inserts everything that was already transcribed — with a notice so you know what happened. Before, a drop at the wrong moment could silently discard the whole dictation.
We also fixed the root cause that made long dictations — a couple of minutes and up — especially likely to get disconnected partway through. Marathon dictations are now just as reliable as quick ones.
And as a last line of defense, Scout briefly keeps a private copy of your dictation audio on your device, so even a worst-case failure is recoverable. It never leaves your computer and cleans itself up automatically.
Sensible safety stops
If a recording is left running — a stuck key, a forgotten hands-free session — Scout now stops it for you: after 15 minutes of continuous recording, or after 2 minutes of pure silence. No more accidentally dictating to an empty room.
Bug fixes
- Fixed long dictations sometimes coming back as "No text detected" after a connection drop.
- Fixed a connection failure while stopping being able to discard text that was already transcribed.
- Starting a dictation is more resilient to brief network hiccups.
